Rendering isn’t just about creating something beautiful. It can be a competitive art form too. For our latest visual exploration, we entered Keyshot and Yanko Design’s Photorealism Rendering Challenge. The brief? To experiment with the new planar lights introduced in Keyshot’s 2025.1 update, using them to generate caustic light patterns. Those mesmerizing, concentrated beams of light formed when rays are reflected or refracted through curved surfaces.

We wanted to approach the challenge with a concept that felt fresh, not obvious or overly simplistic. It was also a chance for us to showcase our eye for composition and rendering, while stepping into new territory: the beauty and health space. We started looking at supplements and were drawn to how light interacts with them. Especially the translucent quality, the way light passes through, and even the little bubbles suspended inside. That’s where the idea took shape: supplements spilled across a surface, each one casting overlapping caustics, forming intricate new patterns of light and shape.
